SUMMARY:Talk and Exhibition "Fear and Loathing and DWGs: A (sort of)
Complete History of Computer Aided Design."
DTSTART:20260307T170000Z

CATEGORIES:Vortrag\,Sonstiges
DESCRIPTION:This talk is a counter-tour through the development of Computer
Aided Design (CAD)\, tracing a few of programs\, practices and
protagonists who aren't usually included in its history. We'll take a
look at early programs which allowed architectural researchers to
DISCOURSE\, SEEK and INTERACT with their computers. We'll look at some
"turnkey" systems\, like CADDS and GDS\, and their unique input devices.
We'll follow the highway-based git system which helped programmers at
Autodesk develop its leviathan\, AutoCAD. And we'll get up close and
personal with ARMILLA 4\, a unique CAD package developed here at the KIT.
At a moment when design software is increasingly platformised and
enclosed\, these examples might help us to think together about other
kinds of technological practices for design. Before and after the talk
there will be opportunities to take a look at some archival material from
the ARMILLA project including publications\, video demos and some source
  code.\n\nExhibition starts at 18:00.\n\nTalk starts at 20:00\n\nMore
